The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
