2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Feedback
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.
His management and experience in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having devoted the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the weeks to follow.
The President

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."
The game lacks an announced release date or consoles, but fans can expect further news as creation advances.
